Confidence Booster – Seize The Opportunity To Reach Your Goals

I wanted to start this post with a story that was a confidence booster for me. I just joined Toastmasters at my workplace, which is an international public speaking club. In my opinion, it is highly encouraged for anyone who wants to gain more confidence in their life. We had our first meeting of the new year recently. At the meeting, we talked about who is going to fill our executive positions this year. One of the positions was Vice President of Education, which consists of meeting with the members of our club to determine their goals for the program and provide them with opportunities and advice to help them reach those goals. This is, of course, an excellent opportunity for self-development.

When the club facilitator finished describing the position, he finished by saying that being a club executive is a fantastic self-development opportunity that will change your character and leadership skills greatly

 boost your confidence

This was all I needed to hear.

I just knew deep inside that even though I was a new member of the club, this position was fully in line with my self-development goals and my purpose in life. A great chance was in front of me to work on my communication skills and get outside my social comfort zone with the rest of the members. I would also become more comfortable leading people and help them achieve their potential, which is exactly what I do here at Fearless Progression. So after 30 seconds of thinking, the club facilitator asked who wanted to volunteer for the position and I immediately raised my hand. I will be going to a training event later this month to learn more about my role.

I want to talk more about boosting your self-esteem and confidence. Simply agreeing to do a thing that you fear can be a great confidence booster. It will shift your momentum, which can help fuel your mindset and propel you towards your goal.

ANALYZE AND FOCUS ON YOUR GOAL

The first thing to consider is analyzing your goal and focusing on it often. If you don’t have any goals, I would HIGHLY suggest that you start coming up with goals and writing them down. Make sure that they are well-structured using the SMART criteria, which I discussed further in my previous blog post. This means having goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-Based. You want to make your goal as clear as possible so that you know EXACTLY how you will achieve it.

You also want to use a journal to plan out your goals each day. I am not perfect with this, but writing down what you want to get done for the day can be very helpful when it comes to tracking your progress, consistently focusing on what you are trying to achieve, and visualizing yourself achieving your goal. If you review your journal at the end of each day or week, you will see how far you have come, which will encourage you to keep going. By reviewing your progress regularly, you will always be focusing on your goal, which will help ingrain it within you. You will also visualize yourself achieving it, which acts as an extra motivator, and is a confidence booster in itself.

KNOW YOUR GOALS, SEE YOUR OPPORTUNITIES

The power of analyzing and focusing on your goal consistently is that you will start to subconsciously notice when an opportunity for growth is right in front of your face. Peak performance coach Jack Canfield says:

“The Law of Attraction states that whatever you focus on, think about, read about, and talk about intensely, you’re going to attract more of into your life”

Opportunities like the executive club position that I signed up for are things that often pass us by without knowing. However, when we focus heavily on a particular goal, we will naturally start to notice when an opportunity comes up that can help us achieve it and give us the confidence booster that we are looking for.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR MINDSET

At the same time, it is important to take care of your mindset. If you perceive a goal as difficult and you are hesitant to take steps towards it, you can pass up great opportunities even when you do notice them. Vice President of Education is a very high responsibility role. To be honest, I have no clue right now how I will handle my duties. However, I recognize that I want to develop myself. I am accountable to it because of my blog and YouTube channel. I am aware of my mission and purpose in life. The key is to use these as leverage to overshadow any fears you may have about working on your goals.

To make this easier, you can use conditioning strategies. I am big on Mindfulness which I do daily as part of my morning ritual. You can also come up with your own affirmations and incantations, which self-help guru Tony Robbins is very big on. Creating affirmations and performing incantations involves writing down phrases that you want to manifest in your life (ex. “I [insert your name] am confident and charismatic!”) and reciting them with intense emotion, where the emotion matches the trait you are trying to manifest. In this case, I would say that I am confident and charismatic using confident body language and with charismatic hand gestures.

As a result, you will help put yourself in the growth mindset and weaken the fears that can prevent you from taking action on a helpful opportunity.

THE CONFIDENCE BOOSTER: SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY

The final thing to know is that when you claim the opportunity given to you, as I did with the executive position, you will get a small euphoric feeling. This will act as a confidence booster that will help you be optimistic about your progress. Although the feeling won’t last forever, the upside is that it will help take your goal from scary…to exciting! You will feel awesome that you took the initiative and went after want you wanted. This is an act of self-love. You should absolutely reward yourself for taking action and putting yourself in a great position to succeed! You are aligning your life with your values and that is a great way to live a meaningful life.

If you get clear about your goals, focus on them often, cultivate your mindset, and seize helpful opportunities when they come your way, you will be well on your way to reaching your goals with strong momentum and a fearless attitude. This process will act as a confidence booster and propel you towards a successful finish.
